LGV Driver Training Services

McConnell's Driver Training Ltd Offers LGV (HGV) Instruction For The Following Categories:

• Category C1 (3.5 to 7.5 Tonnes)
• Category C1 + E (3.5 to 7.5 tonnes) + Trailer
• Category C (Rigid Vehicle Over 7.5 Tonnes)
• Category C + E (Artic - Rigid Vehicle + Trailer)

Drivers that passed their car test from January 1997 onwards, wishing to drive medium goods vehicles between 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes are required to pass a test in this category. Drivers that passed their car test before January 1997 should automatically hold C1 certification, though this is always worth checking.

Category C1 (3.5 Tonnes + Trailer Over750 kgs)
Drivers wishing to tow a larger trailer are required to take a further test; Category C1 + E. If you have obtained category C1 certification through "grandfather" rights, please refer to the "important notes" section below.

Category C (Rigid)
Drivers wishing to operate goods vehicles of over 7.5 tonnes must obtain Category C(Rigid) certification. This licence will allow drivers to operate any rigid vehicles regardless of axels. Having passed this category, drivers are able to tow a trailer restricted to 750 kgs. To tow a trailer over this weight, further certification is needed - Category C + E.

Category C+E (Articulated)
This category is needed in order to drive articulated or draw bar, large goods vehicles. Since January 1997, the licensing laws mean that candidates can no longer take a C+E test without having first obtained Category C certification.

For all categories noted above, all drivers must obtain provisional entitlement on their current car licence. Candidates with a Category C licence should already hold Category C + E provisional entitlement, though a thorough check is highly advised. 

CPC For LGV & PCV Drivers Loughborough

The Driver CPC is for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. Developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life, McConnell's Driver Training Ltd provides modular training, either at your premises or at our base in Loughborough, Leicestershire.
